North Yorkshire to Host Dinner and Stargazing Activities

North Yorkshire is gearing up to host a series of stargazing and dining events that will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the night sky and enjoy locally sourced food. The events are part of the Dark Skies Festival, which is set to run from 12th to 28th February 2021.

This festival is a collaborative effort by the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks, aimed at celebrating the region’s exceptional dark skies. In North Yorkshire, the low levels of light pollution enable clear visibility of celestial bodies, making it an ideal location for stargazing activities.

The events will be hosted at the National Park Centres in Danby and Sutton Bank and will feature a diverse range of activities. This will include stargazing sessions guided by experts, astrophotography workshops, and night-time nature walks. For those interested in the culinary side of things, there will also be a variety of local food and drink on offer.

One of the highlights of the festival is the ‘Dinner with the Stars’ event, which will take place at the Star Inn in Harome. This Michelin-starred restaurant will offer a special menu for the occasion, with dishes inspired by the cosmos and featuring locally sourced ingredients. The event is suitable for both astronomy enthusiasts and food lovers alike.

Another notable event is the ‘AstroCamp’ at the Hawes National Park Centre. Here, participants can enjoy a weekend of camping under the stars, coupled with a series of astronomy talks and telescope demonstrations.

The Dark Skies Festival is also a fantastic opportunity to learn more about astronomy. Several events will be aimed at educating attendees about various aspects of the cosmos, from the basics of stargazing to more complex topics like astrophotography.

To ensure attendees’ safety amidst the ongoing pandemic, all events will adhere to the necessary Covid-19 safety protocols. Many activities will also be available online, making it possible for those unable to attend in person to participate virtually.

Tickets for the events are available online, with prices varying depending on the activity. Attendees are advised to book in advance due to limited spaces. This festival is not only a great opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts but also for families looking for an educational and entertaining experience.
