Space Force Concludes $148M Professional Services Grant Agreement

The United States Space Force has concluded a $148 million contract for professional services. The contract is part of the USSF’s broader strategy to consolidate its portfolio of non-IT services contracts, known as Category Management. The aim is to enhance the efficiency of procurement and reduce costs. The contract was awarded through a competitive process to KBR, a global provider of differentiated professional consulting and engineering services.

Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide resources to support the Space Systems Command’s programmatic and engineering functions, and the Space and Missile Systems Center’s cross mission ground directorate. The company will also assist with the launch enterprise and innovation and prototyping directorate. The contract will be in place for five years and will see KBR deploy experts in acquisition, systems engineering, and augmentation to various sites across the country.

Additionally, KBR will provide technical assistance, including engineering, launch-related and in-space services, supporting a range of missions. These include strategic and tactical military communication satellites, missile warning and tracking, space launch and test range systems, and space-based infrared systems. The company will also support the development and acquisition of next-generation satellites and launch vehicles, as well as missile systems and associated ground systems.

The contract award indicates a significant step forward for the Space Force’s Category Management initiative, which was launched in 2020 to streamline and consolidate the force’s non-IT services contracts to improve efficiency and reduce costs. It is part of the broader government-wide Category Management initiative, aimed at making federal procurement more efficient and effective.

The Space Force, the newest branch of the U.S. military, was established in 2019 to oversee the country’s military operations in space. Its responsibilities include protecting U.S. and allied interests in space and providing space capabilities to the joint force.

This contract marks another key development in the ongoing consolidation and professionalization of the U.S. military’s space operations. KBR’s wide-ranging experience in the sector, coupled with its extensive resources, positions it well to support the Space Force’s mission. As the Space Force continues to evolve and consolidate its operations, contracts like these will play a crucial role in ensuring it has the resources it needs to maintain and enhance the U.S.’s capabilities in space.
