Mushtariybegim Akhmadjonova: A Look into Her Role as a Research Engineer at The Space Research and Technology Agency, Ministry of Digital Technologies, Republic of Uzbekistan

Mushtariybegim Akhmadjonova is a research engineer at The Space Research and Technology Agency (SRTA), a unit under the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan. She is part of a team dedicated to developing space technology within the country.

Akhmadjonova’s journey into space technology began with her undergraduate studies in physics and her subsequent studies in space engineering. After completing her studies, she joined the SRTA, where she has been involved in several breakthrough projects. She is currently leading a team that is developing the country’s first nanosatellite, UzLIDAR.

UzLIDAR, once launched, will be tasked with monitoring and gathering data on the country’s ecological state, including deforestation rates, air and water pollution levels, and the effects of climate change. This nanosatellite represents a significant advancement in Uzbekistan’s space technology capabilities.

Akhmadjonova and her team developed UzLIDAR with the assistance of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), which provided the necessary support for the project. This international collaboration has helped the team overcome numerous technical and financial challenges.

While the UzLIDAR project marks a significant advancement for Uzbekistan, Akhmadjonova mentioned that the country still faces several challenges in its space program. She pinpointed a lack of domestic production capabilities and a shortage of qualified personnel as significant hurdles. However, she remains confident that with continued investment and collaboration, the country will be able to overcome these obstacles and further develop its space technology capabilities.

Akhmadjonova’s work in the SRTA highlights the potential of space technology in solving pressing environmental issues. Her efforts showcase the importance of international collaboration in advancing space technology and the role of women in this traditionally male-dominated field.

In the future, Akhmadjonova hopes to see more Uzbek women pursuing careers in space technology. She believes that increasing female participation in the field can bring a fresh perspective and contribute to the advancement of space technology in the country.

In conclusion, Mushtariybegim Akhmadjonova’s work in space technology is contributing to the development of Uzbekistan’s capabilities in the field. Her team’s development of the UzLIDAR nanosatellite, with the support of international partners, demonstrates the potential of space technology in addressing environmental challenges and the importance of fostering global collaborations. Despite the challenges her country faces, Akhmadjonova remains optimistic about the future of space technology in Uzbekistan.
