The Ariane 6, a European rocket equipped with systems engineered by Irish space technology firm Réaltra, is slated for launch on Tuesday. Réaltra has developed two advanced technology systems for the rocket, which was constructed by ArianeGroup for the European Space Agency (ESA). The launch will take place at Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

Réaltra, headquartered in Dublin, designed the Video Telemetry System (VIKI) and the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) telemetry system (GEKI) for the Ariane 6. VIKI will transmit live high-definition video telemetry images during all stages of the mission, using six onboard cameras. GEKI, the GNSS system, will leverage advanced satellite navigation technology to guarantee accurate positioning, velocity, and timing measurements. Réaltra has stated that GEKI will function as an autonomous experimental system during Ariane 6’s first launch, to assess the functionality of the GNSS in space at high velocities.

The maiden voyage of the Ariane 6 will primarily serve as a demonstration flight, carrying satellites, deployers, experiments from diverse entities such as companies, research institutes, universities, young professionals, and space agencies.

Réaltra’s chief commercial officer, Danny Higgins, expressed the team’s delight and pride in having their technology onboard.
