Beyond Earth ETF Emphasizes Space Exploration, According to Tidal’s Recent Filings

Tidal ETF Services has applied to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the launch of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused on investing in companies engaged in space exploration and innovation. The proposed Beyond Earth ETF is aimed at capitalizing on the burgeoning space economy, which is expected to reach $1 trillion by 2040 according to Bank of America.

The Beyond Earth ETF will be actively managed, implying that the fund’s managers will have discretion to select and adjust the portfolio of companies in which the fund invests. This differs from passively managed ETFs, which usually follow a predetermined index. The fund will target companies that are engaged in activities such as satellite and launch technology, space technology hardware, space-based telecommunications, space exploration and tourism, and those that provide resources for space missions.

The application for the ETF comes at a time when private enterprises are increasingly becoming involved in space exploration and related activities. Companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic are pioneering this new frontier, while traditional aerospace and defense companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin are also investing heavily in space-based technology.

The ETF will offer investors an opportunity to participate in the growth of the space economy without having to invest directly in individual companies. This reduces the risk associated with individual company performance. However, the fund’s performance will be subject to the overall growth and development of the space industry.

The Beyond Earth ETF is not the first of its kind. In 2020, Procure AM launched the Procure Space ETF, which is currently the only pure-play space ETF on the market. It is also an actively managed fund and includes companies like Dish Network, Iridium Communications, and Garmin among its holdings.

Before the Beyond Earth ETF can be launched, it must receive approval from the SEC. The review process can take several months and there is no guarantee that approval will be granted. If approved, the ETF could be a significant development for investors interested in the space industry.

In conclusion, the proposed Beyond Earth ETF represents a growing interest in the space sector as an investment opportunity. It offers a unique way for investors to gain exposure to this emerging market, with the potential for significant returns as the sector grows. However, as with any investment, it also comes with risks and potential investors should thoroughly research and consider their options before investing.
