Ascent Solar Technologies Inc. Achieves Spaceflight Heritage for its Space Solar PV Array Products on Momentus’ Vigoride-6 Mission

Ascent Solar Technologies (ASTI), the leading U.S. innovator in lightweight, flexible, and durable CIGS thin-film photovoltaic (PV) solutions, proudly announces its achievement of spaceflight heritage on the Momentus Vigoride-6 mission. The company’s Plug & Fly™ solar panels, integrated into Momentus’s Tape Spring Solar Array (TASSA), have successfully completed initial in-space testing, marking a significant milestone for ASTI’s space solutions.

This accomplishment not only establishes NASA Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL9) for ASTI’s products but also validates their CIGS material, manufacturing, integration, and quality processes. Ascent’s bare PV modules have been performing as expected in the space environment, further confirming the positive results of the previous MISSE-X experiment with NASA on the ISS. This achievement reinforces the robustness of the company’s portfolio of CIGS intellectual properties for space applications.

Building on this success, Ascent Solar Technologies is now focusing on developing its next generation of higher efficiency lightweight products specifically optimized for the orbital environment. The Titan Space HDK line, derived from the subscale PV modules flown on Vigoride-6, will offer mission managers significant mass, cost, and schedule savings, with additional capacity of multiple megawatts still available for deliveries in 2024.
