Amazon Web Services Launches a Fresh Space Accelerator in India

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of a new Space Accelerator program, aimed at nurturing space technology startups based in India. This initiative is a follow-up to AWS’s collaboration with the India Space Research Organizations (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) in 2023.

The Space Accelerator is a 14-week mentorship program that seeks to stimulate growth in India’s space economy, projected to hit $44 billion by 2033. The initiative is open to both budding and established space industry startups in India requiring a technological platform to expedite their growth and secure investment opportunities.

The selected startups will have the opportunity to receive expert advice from ISRO, IN-SPACe, and AWS. In addition, they will get business and technology support from T-Hub and Minfy, an AWS Premier Partner. The application process is currently open, with the program expected to begin in April 2024.

During the program, the chosen startups will be educated on various space domain technologies and applications. They will be taught how to utilize space data, construct scalable solutions using cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning. They will also learn how to apply generative artificial intelligence (AI). AWS intends to provide the startups with a low-cost platform to experiment rapidly, enabling them to refine their solutions prior to launching and scaling them.

This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the growth of the space technology sector in India and empower startups to innovate and compete on a global scale. The program aligns with India’s broader objectives of becoming a major player in the global space industry.
