It was later discovered in January 2015 that the Beagle 2 had landed on Mars but failed to deploy all its solar panels, rendering it unable to communicate.

The International Space Station (ISS), the humanity’s orbiting outpost, has also had its share of mishaps. In November 2008, a tool bag drifted away from a spacewalking astronaut. In August 2018, a drop in cabin pressure led to the discovery of a 2mm hole in the docked Russian Soyuz module. The hole, believed to be caused by a drill slip during a repair job on Earth, was patched up with epoxy and tape.

Most recently, the docking of the Nauka module at the ISS in July 2021 caused the station to spin due to an unplanned burn of its engines. Despite these errors and challenges, the spirit of exploration continues to drive space missions, much like the sea voyages of maritime history.
